Project Showcase:

Feeding site at a back-grounding facility in Franklin County was located in riparian area.

                                 

 

Landowner applied to the MdC WRAPS Livestock Projects Grant and received funding to assist with costs of the project associated with the waterers, heavy use area protection and the access road.   

                                

                         

 

New feeding site, away from the riparian area is now operational! 

        

Landowner installed a new back grounding facility which allowed him to relocate cattle from the riparian area at the existing facility site. Best Management Practices installed included access road, water facilities, critical area planting and shaping for vegetative filter strip, heavy use area protection and fence. Landowner also worked with NRCS to develop a nutrient management plan to be followed once facility was operational.

Total calculated cost associated with this project, excluding fence and critical area seeding, was $99,760; MdC WRAPS Livestock Projects Grant paid $20,000 towards the project.
