On behalf of the 105 County Conservation
District in Kansas, the Miami County Conservation District would like to
extend the opportunity to your business/association to become involved
with a state of the art project for Kansas. We are pleased to provide
your business the opportunity to become a part of the new, one of a
kind, Soil Tunnel Trailer.
The Soil Tunnel Trailer was envisioned by staff of the Miami County
Conservation District and became a reality thanks in part to grant funds
through the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and the
professional designs of Randall Bennett, Tall Grass Museum Services in
Lawrence, KS. The Soil Tunnel Trailer is a mobile, museum quality,
learning experience to educate Kansans about the world of soil. The Soil
Tunnel Trailer is self-contained in a handicap accessible 12’ x 8.5’
enclosed trailer. To provide additional space when working with large
groups the Soil Tunnel Trailer will also include a 10’x15’ easy up
canopy with professional art work to match the exterior of the trailer.
The professional designs on the inside and outside of the trailer have
brought the world of soil to life. The eye catching, hand painted soil
profile horizons on the exterior of the trailer are hard to miss as the
trailer travels up and down Kansas roadways.
The Soil Tunnel Trailer will serve as a learning tool and backdrop for a
variety of presentations at schools across the State, various field
days, community festivals, science fairs/programs, County Fairs, the
State Fair and beyond. Target audiences will include both students and
adults; ranging from homeowners, environmental professionals,
agricultural producers and school teachers. All audiences will benefit
from this unique teaching tool as it provides a realistic visualization
to educate citizens about the connection between soil and the food,
fiber and fuel we use daily. Educational events with the Soil Tunnel
Trailer will only be possible with the donations we receive from
outstanding sponsors who appreciate and have a connection to, and an
invested interest in, the importance of soil.
The Miami County Conservation District would like to provide you with
the opportunity to join in our efforts to educate Kansans about soil and
more importantly how soil is the basis of our success in every industry!
To support our efforts we would appreciate if you would consider making
a donation towards the Soil Tunnel Trailer. Donations received will
assist with expenses above the initial $50,000 Soil Tunnel Trailer costs
and will allow us to create a self sustaining, non-profit project
available for use in all counties in Kansas.
Donations received will be used for items such as:
* A flat screen TV and DVD player to be mounted in the trailer to loop soil education videos
* Custom painted canopy tent to provide shade and larger learning area with the trailer
* Annual mobile museum display insurance
* Development of a Soil Tunnel Trailer Website
* A 3/4 ton or larger vehicle dedicated to transporting the Soil Tunnel Trailer across the state to various events
* Supplemental Educational supplies, including distribution of soil related curriculum in lane with state educational standards
* Materials to create a soil painting station as part of the Soil Tunnel Trailer exhibit at county fairs and other community events
* Soil Tunnel Trailer magnets, pencils, brochures, and other soil related handouts to educate on soil and advertise the trailer.
* Travel expenses to assist with getting the Soil Tunnel Trailer to all 105 counties in Kansas during 2010 & 2011.
* Necessary maintenance and any further artist work and enhancements on the trailer.
