Haying and Grazing of Certain CRP Announced

USDA recently announced that certain acreage enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) would be available to be hayed and/or grazed this year after the primary nesting season which ends July 15th.  Producers can now begin making request at the USDA Service Center for this one time option to hay and/or graze your CRP acreage without a reduced annual rental payment.  You may lease, rent or sell the haying/grazing value if you have no need to utilize the haying/grazing value.  If you choose to take advantage of this haying/grazing opportunity, you will be required to pay a $75.00 administrative fee per contract and sign a CRP Contract Addendum that requires participants to agree with the following terms and conditions:

Obtain a modified conservation plan to include haying and/or grazing, as determined by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) or Technical Service Provider (TSP).

Re-establish, at the participant (s) own expense, any cover destroyed or damaged as a result of participating under this authority.

Remove all hay or livestock from CRP acreage before November 10, 2008.

Limit haying of CRP acreage to one cutting.

Not hay and graze the same acreage.

If haying, leave at least 50 percent of each field unhayed.

If grazing, leave at least 25 percent of each field un-grazed for wildlife, or in the alternative, graze all of the CRP acreage at no more than 75 percent of the stocking rate as determined by NRCS or TSP.

If the actual acreage hayed or grazed is more or less than originally requested, notify the county FSA office of the actual number of acres and location (s).

Pay an administrative fee of $75.00 per contract to CCC prior to approval and as a condition for, this modification.

If you have questions about this haying/grazing opportunity or any other concerns about your CRP Contract, please don’t hesitate to visit our office or call us at 785-242-3260.
